President-elect Donald Trump acknowledged that he and former President Barack Obama “probably do” like each other after a viral video showed them chatting during President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Despite their differing political philosophies and history of criticism towards each other, Trump expressed that they seemed friendly and got along. While Trump had previously spread the false birther conspiracy theory about Obama and the Obamas have criticized Trump as well, there have been moments of praise and cordiality between them. In the past, Trump has called Obama a “nice gentleman” and complimented their meeting at the White House after his first election victory in 2016. Obama also described their conversation at that time as “excellent.” Despite their disagreements, Trump has expressed respect for the Obamas and acknowledged their ability to get along despite their differences. The relationship between Trump and Obama has been a mix of contention and moments of mutual respect, showing that political rivals can still find common ground and get along.
