Waterbury man accused of breaking into sports betting venue in Connecticut

Aric McCray, a 53-year-old man from New Haven, was arrested last week for allegedly burglarizing a sports betting venue in Waterbury. The incident occurred at Winner’s on Thomaston Ave., where McCray was accused of breaking in using a rock and stealing lottery tickets that were not activated. After fleeing the scene on foot, McCray was later spotted by police officers conducting a separate investigation at a different location. He was taken into custody and charged with trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia before being linked to the burglary at Winner’s. McCray now faces charges of third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, and third-degree criminal mischief. It was revealed that McCray has a history of burglary arrests and convictions, with six pending cases in New Haven Superior Court. He remains in custody on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on February 5. The Waterbury Police Department credited the quick response of their officers and the coordination with other task forces for McCray’s arrest. The community is reminded to report any suspicious activities to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
