The No. 7 UConn women’s basketball team, led by graduate student Azzi Fudd scoring 23 points, defeated Xavier 81-27 at the XL Center. Freshman Sarah Strong also contributed with 15 points and seven rebounds, continuing her streak of double-digit scoring in each game. Another freshman, Allie Ziebell, scored a personal-best 17 points off the bench, including 15 points in the second half. The Huskies scored 42 points off turnovers and had 36 paint points, dominating the game and holding Xavier to single digits in three quarters. They took a 45-10 lead into halftime.
The team will face Georgetown on Saturday at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. The previous matchup between the two teams resulted in a 79-44 win for UConn. The game will be broadcast on SNY at 4 p.m. The win over Xavier improves UConn’s record to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the BIG EAST conference. The team’s strong performance and contributions from both veteran players and freshmen show their depth and talent as they continue their season.
