Villanova’s Eric Dixon scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats to a 68-66 victory over No. 9 UConn. The win snapped the Huskies’ eight-game winning streak and was Villanova’s fourth win in Big East play. UConn was missing star freshman Liam McNeeley due to injury, contributing to their first conference loss of the season.
Despite Dixon’s struggles in the first half, shooting only 12.5%, he came back strong after halftime to secure the win for Villanova. Wooga Poplar also contributed 18 points for the Wildcats. The game was played on Villanova’s campus in front of fans for the first time in over 25 years.
The victory puts Villanova back in the NCAA tournament conversation after missing out in recent seasons. UConn will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against Georgetown, while Villanova will face St. John’s next. It was a thrilling matchup between two top teams in the Big East, showcasing the talent and competitiveness of both programs.
