PowerSchool cybersecurity breach has impacted several Connecticut schools – NBC Connecticut

Several Connecticut school districts, including Cromwell, Montville, Newington, Region 1, Region 16, and Wallingford, have been impacted by a cybersecurity breach affecting the PowerSchool Student Information System. The breach, discovered on December 28, involved unauthorized access to certain data through the PowerSchool customer support portal.

Cromwell Public Schools and other districts have notified families about the breach, although the extent of the data compromised is still unclear. While some student and staff information may have been accessed, social security information is not stored in Cromwell’s system.

Region 1 Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley confirmed that student and staff information across the region has been impacted by the breach. Wallingford, Region 16, and other districts have also been affected.

PowerSchool has stated that the incident has been contained, and there is no anticipated operational disruption. They are providing support and resources to affected customers, families, and educators.

Wethersfield Schools have confirmed that their data was not compromised in the breach. Plans for addressing the breach and ensuring data security are being discussed by school officials and PowerSchool representatives.
