Former Dallas Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott has found a new home with the Los Angeles Chargers after being signed to their practice squad ahead of the wild card round. The move came after Elliott was waived by the Cowboys on Dec. 31 in order to join a playoff team. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement expressing gratitude for Elliott and wishing him the best in his future endeavors.
Elliott, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, had a successful career with the Cowboys, including two league rushing titles and a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2016. However, his performance in recent seasons has declined, leading to his release.
The Chargers, who are the No. 5 seed in the AFC, will face the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs. In addition to Elliott, the Chargers also have running backs J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Hassan Haskins on their roster. Dobbins has been the standout performer despite some injury setbacks, rushing for 905 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games this season.
The addition of Elliott to the Chargers’ running back depth chart adds experience and depth to the team as they look to make a deep postseason run. The move has generated excitement among fans and analysts, with many eager to see how Elliott will perform in his new role with the Chargers.
