Notre Dame Beats UConn and Holds on to No. 8 Spot

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In a thrilling showdown, the No. 8 Notre Dame women’s basketball team defeated second-ranked UConn 79-68. Hannah Hidalgo led the Fighting Irish with an impressive performance, scoring 29 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out eight assists. UConn’s Paige Bueckers scored 25 points in the loss.

Notre Dame’s defense was key in the victory, holding UConn to just 3-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc. The Fighting Irish, on the other hand, were efficient from deep, making 10 of their 18 attempts.

Although UConn made a late surge, cutting an 11-point halftime deficit to just one point in the third quarter, a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Hidalgo gave Notre Dame momentum heading into the final period. The Fighting Irish extended their lead in the fourth quarter and secured the win.

Next up for UConn is a BIG EAST matchup against Georgetown on Sunday at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The Huskies will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season and continue their strong start to the year. Notre Dame will aim to build on this impressive victory as they prepare for their next challenge.
