Governor Ned Lamont has activated Connecticut’s severe cold weather protocol due to forecasted frigid conditions. The protocol will be in effect from January 6 to January 9, 2025, with temperatures expected to be in the mid to upper twenties during the day and single digits and teens at night. Wind chill values may drop below zero with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
Individuals in need of shelter are urged to call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org to locate available options and transportation. The protocol aims to protect vulnerable populations from life-threatening cold exposure by coordinating with state agencies, United Way 2-1-1, and shelters across Connecticut.
The Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection will use its WebEOC system to monitor shelter capacity and coordinate with 2-1-1 for shelter space. State agencies will work with community providers to provide transportation for those seeking shelter.
