Georgia will face Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinals without starting quarterback Carson Beck, who is sidelined due to injury. Gunner Stockton, a redshirt sophomore and backup quarterback, will likely step in for the Bulldogs. Stockton, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound athlete from Tiger, Georgia, is a sports management major at the University of Georgia. He was a highly recruited four-star athlete in the Class of 2022.
While Stockton did not play in 2022 as a redshirt, he has seen some playing time in 2023 and 2024 as Beck’s backup. In the SEC Championship game against Texas, Stockton completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards and a pick after Beck’s injury.
Georgia and Notre Dame are set to face off on Thursday, January 2, in the Sugar Bowl. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and available for streaming on WatchESPN and the ESPN mobile app.
The Bulldogs have their sights set on the Orange Bowl, where Penn State awaits if they secure a spot. Stockton’s performance in the upcoming games will be crucial in determining if Georgia can advance in the College Football Playoff run. The nation is waiting eagerly to see if this backup quarterback has what it takes to lead Georgia to victory.
