Al Jazeera TV broadcast temporarily suspended by Palestinian Authority

The Palestinian Authority temporarily suspended operations of Al Jazeera television in the territory, citing issues with the network’s coverage. The culture, interior, and communications ministers jointly made the decision, stating that the channel was disseminating material that was inciting strife. Al Jazeera criticized the decision, calling it an attempt to suppress reporting on events in the occupied territories. The Palestinian Authority did not specify an end date for the suspension, but it was not expected to affect operations in Hamas-run Gaza. Fatah, the faction in control of the Palestinian Authority, accused the broadcaster of sowing division and encouraged Palestinians not to cooperate with the network. In the past, the Israeli military and government have also taken action against Al Jazeera, with raids on its bureau in Ramallah and a ban on operating in the country due to alleged security threats.
