The UConn men’s hockey team fell to Wisconsin in the championship game of the Kwik Trip Holiday Face Off Tournament by a final score of 4-3. Despite tying the game in the third period, a late goal and an empty net goal by the Badgers sealed the win for Wisconsin. The Huskies faced adversity before the game as starting goaltender Callum Tung was ruled out due to illness, forcing freshman Tommy Heaney to start in goal.
Throughout the game, the Huskies defense and Heaney kept Wisconsin scoreless through the first two periods. Despite falling behind, UConn’s offense responded with goals from Kaden Shahan and Joey Muldowney to tie the game at two. However, Wisconsin reclaimed the lead with two minutes remaining and secured the victory with an empty net goal.
Moving forward, the Huskies will return home and prepare for a one-game matchup at Harvard on January 4. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Despite the loss, the Huskies showed resilience and determination throughout the tournament, and will look to bounce back in their upcoming games.
