Millions of people in the South are facing a severe storm threat on Saturday, with the potential for damaging winds, strong tornadoes, and hail. Multiple tornadoes have already been reported in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, causing injuries and fatalities.
In Texas, five tornadoes were confirmed on Thursday, with one causing structural damage in the Houston area. The storm threat continued on Saturday, with the risk of tornadoes, destructive winds, and hail persisting into the night. Localized flash flooding was also a concern.
Tragically, one person was killed in a tornado in Brazoria County, Texas, while another person died in Natchez, Mississippi. The storm also caused damage to a fire station in east Montgomery County.
As the storms move east, a slight risk for severe weather is expected to impact 24 million people from east Alabama to Virginia on Sunday. The ongoing severe weather has led to flight delays and cancellations, with thousands of flights affected in the U.S. as of Saturday night.
