The UConn men’s hockey team started off the Holiday Face Off Tournament strong with a 4-1 victory over Alaska Fairbanks. The Huskies dominated from the start, scoring two goals in the first period. Freshman Callum Tung had an impressive performance in net, finishing with 27 saves. The Huskies’ speed and strong defense kept the Nanooks at bay throughout the game.
In the first period, the Huskies capitalized on a power play opportunity with a goal from freshman Ethan Whitcomb. They extended their lead with a goal from sophomore Jake Richard. The Huskies continued their strong offensive play in the second period, with freshman Trey Scott scoring another power play goal. Alaska Fairbanks managed to score a goal of their own, but UConn held onto their lead.
The Huskies sealed the win in the third period with a goal from junior Jake Percival. Freshman Callum Tung continued to impress in net, securing his second win of the season with 27 saves. UConn will now await the winner of Wisconsin vs. Ferris State for the Championship game, which will be streamed live on BigTen+ at 5pm.
