Seventeen million people in the southern United States are at risk of damaging winds, strong tornadoes, and hail as the region faces potentially destructive storms. Multiple tornadoes have been reported in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, with an EF-1 tornado near Fullerton, Louisiana, causing damage. The National Weather Service confirms five tornadoes in Texas, including one in Houston. The risk of more storms on Saturday extends from east Texas to Alabama, including cities like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Birmingham. The Storm Prediction Center warns of possible storm development in the morning and stronger storms in the afternoon, with the greatest tornado threat in late afternoon/early evening.
A tornado watch is in effect for East Texas to southwestern Mississippi, with a threat of damaging gusts, large hail, and possible tornadoes. Over 3,360 flight delays and 162 cancellations have been reported within the U.S., with a majority at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The weather has caused disruptions to air travel as well.
