Robert Cole Parmalee, 40, pleaded guilty to a stalking charge after being accused of harassing UConn basketball star Paige Bueckers. Originally facing multiple charges, Parmalee received a one-year suspended sentence and three years’ probation. He had been arrested with an engagement ring and lingerie while heading to see Bueckers at UConn after posting about her on social media. Parmalee had also allegedly set a home on fire in Oregon.
Parmalee’s behavior escalated over time, with rambling emails and social media posts expressing his desire to marry Bueckers. While initially not warranting criminal charges, the situation grew alarming as he continued to contact UConn officials and make troubling remarks. Parmalee’s guilty plea highlights the importance of addressing stalking and harassment, especially in cases involving public figures. With the legal consequences now in place, Bueckers can hopefully find peace and security moving forward.
