Two pilots were killed when a Kamaka Air Cessna 208 crashed into an abandoned building near Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu on Tuesday afternoon. The pilots were conducting a training flight, and the building was owned by the Department of Transportation and was vacant. The pilots managed to avoid hitting other structures before crashing. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash. Witnesses reported seeing the small plane flying low before hearing a loud boom and seeing plumes of smoke. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the exterior portion of the building. Kamaka Air confirmed the loss of two members of their team in the accident. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport facilities remained operational after the crash, but nearby streets were closed. Hawaii Governor Josh Green expressed condolences to the families of the pilots and pledged support to the investigating officials. The building that was hit in the crash had been scheduled for demolition, and will now be demolished soon.
