Police: Man taken into custody for strangling woman and harming child at rest stop in Fairfield – NBC Connecticut

A man has been arrested for allegedly strangling a woman and injuring a baby at an Interstate 95 rest stop in Fairfield. The incident occurred on Dec. 7 after an argument with a mechanic escalated. The man began arguing with the woman in the car and ended up strangling her, causing injuries to her neck. He also smashed the car’s rear window, causing glass shards to fall on a one-month-old baby in the back seat, resulting in cuts and bleeding to the baby’s face.

The man, woman, and baby were traveling to Rhode Island when the incident occurred. The man was located a week later in New York and taken into custody in Rhode Island. He is facing charges including risk of injury to a child, criminal mischief, larceny, breach of peace, reckless endangerment, and strangulation. The man is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) has been notified, and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
