Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) employees are facing the prospect of having to repay thousands of dollars to the system after a calculation error led to overpayment. A review of payments from 2022 revealed that hundreds of college employees were overpaid, with amounts ranging up to $4,500. The error was discovered during a review of the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) in December.
The CSCU spokesperson stated that employees have been notified about the overpayment earlier this month and that an audit is being conducted to determine the total number of employees affected. The school system has engaged an external auditing firm to review payroll transactions from the past four years, with the audit expected to conclude in early 2025.
The affected employees will be informed of the amount they were overpaid and provided with options for repayment to address the situation. CSCU has committed to offering flexible repayment options to ease any potential financial burden on the employees.
