Connecticut businesses and organizations are voicing their concerns about the potential ban on TikTok, a popular social media app that has brought in foot traffic and customers. Annya White-Brown, the founder of NaturalAnnie Essentials Candle Making Bar, has seen months of business generated from TikTok videos. Similarly, the Killingly Public Library has attracted visitors through their TikTok account.
However, economics professor Dr. Brian Marks believes that while a TikTok ban may impact small businesses, creators and owners could adapt to other platforms. With over 29,000 users in Connecticut, the potential ban raises questions about the future of social media marketing and outreach for businesses in the state.
TikTok has requested the Supreme Court to block a law that would force its owner to sell the platform or face a ban in the United States. The decision on TikTok’s future will likely have a significant impact on how businesses and organizations in Connecticut engage with their customers and communities online.
