High School Football State Champions Crowned at the NBC Connecticut Field


Masuk, Killingly, Ansonia, St. Joseph, New Canaan, and Greenwich all emerged victorious in Connecticut high school football state championship games over the weekend.

Masuk claimed the Class MM title with a 24-21 win over Windsor, thanks to a game-winning field goal by Jackson Zylick. Killingly completed a perfect season with a 48-33 victory over Sheehan in the Class SS championship game. Ansonia dominated Bloomfield 58-12 to secure their 22nd state championship, a program record.

St. Joseph won the Class M title by holding off Brookfield 21-20, earning their 16th state championship. New Canaan defeated Darien 35-21 to claim the Class L championship, their third straight under head coach Lou Marinelli. Greenwich shut out West Haven 14-0 to win the Class LL championship, marking their 10th state title in program history.

Coaches and players expressed excitement and pride in their hard-fought victories. Zylick of Masuk mentioned the team’s resiliency, while coaches emphasized the dedication and determination of their players. St. Joseph’s Jake Rios described the win as the best feeling in the world, while New Canaan’s Marinelli praised his team for overcoming tough challenges.

Overall, the weekend saw thrilling football action and impressive performances from Connecticut high school teams, culminating in well-deserved state championships for the victors.
