Connecticut Comptroller to issue audit report of college system

Comptroller Sean Scanlon will be releasing an independent audit of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System on Wednesday, at the request of Gov. Ned Lamont. Recent reports of “controversial spending decisions” have raised concerns, prompting the audit. The release is expected to take place at 11 a.m. in Hartford, where key findings and recommendations will be reviewed.

Governor Lamont highlighted the importance of this audit in increasing transparency about the system’s financial practices. The Office of the State Comptroller had previously reviewed CCSU’s financial documents and policies, identifying potential inappropriate spending, disregard for financial practices and procedures, inadequate reporting, and misuse of state property.

The call for an audit comes after the state school system requested more funding from the state budget last spring, with some schools facing potential closure without additional financial support. The Lamont administration noted declining enrollment and a significant increase in the state’s cost per student even before the pandemic.
