A woman who was previously charged as a stowaway after boarding a New York-to-Paris flight without a ticket has been arrested near the Canadian border after cutting off her ankle bracelet. Svetlana Dali was apprehended in Buffalo after taking a Greyhound bus from Philadelphia. She had been charged with being a stowaway for sneaking onto a Delta flight from New York City to Paris and had been ordered to wear a GPS ankle bracelet.
She was stopped by Canadian authorities while trying to cross the border and is now in FBI custody after cutting off her ankle bracelet. A court appearance is scheduled before she is handed over to federal officials in New York. Dali bypassed security and ticketing checkpoints to board the flight and was denied entry into France upon arrival.
In an interview with the FBI, Dali admitted to taking the flight without a boarding pass and acknowledged the illegality of her actions. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison, a fine, or both. Dali’s attorney in the stowaway case has not commented on the recent arrest. The FBI and TSA have confirmed the details of the incident, and Delta employees discovered her presence on the flight only after it had taken off.
