Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, head of Russia’s NBC Defense Forces, was killed in an explosion in Moscow on Tuesday. The blast, caused by a device planted at an apartment block, also claimed the life of Kirillov’s assistant. Kirillov had been charged by Ukraine with using banned chemical weapons during the invasion of the country in 2022.
In October, Britain sanctioned Kirillov for his involvement in deploying riot control agents and chemical choking agents on the battlefield. The Russian Foreign Ministry defended Kirillov, stating that he fearlessly exposed the crimes of the West.
The investigation into the explosion is ongoing, with forensic workers and emergency services at the scene. Despite the controversies surrounding Kirillov’s actions, the Russian Foreign Ministry praised his dedication to his country and the truth. The situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
