Prosecutors have filed an additional murder charge against the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer, bringing the total number of alleged victims to seven. The new charge is connected to 24-year-old victim Valerie Mack, whose remains were found in 2000. A hair linked to the wife or daughter of suspect Rex Heuermann was found near Mack’s body. Notes found on the suspect’s computer suggest planning to remove identifying marks from the victim’s body.
Many of the victims were sex workers who allegedly met the suspect after advertising their services. Heuermann has denied involvement in the murders and disposal of the remains. Investigators are looking into other nearby unsolved murders to see if they could be linked to Heuermann.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney emphasized the importance of the victims’ lives, stating that they deserve justice. Families of the victims, represented by attorney Gloria Allred, are supportive of the ongoing investigation and grateful for any closure it may bring.
The suspect was initially charged in connection with the slayings of other women, including Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, and Jessica Taylor. Heuermann, an architect from New York City, was arrested in 2023 and has denied all charges against him. Investigations are continuing to uncover any additional potential victims related to the case.
