Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam is taking a strong stance against “problem landlords” in the city in an effort to improve housing conditions. Four landlords have been identified for failing to address tenant concerns and maintain safe housing conditions, including PAXE Properties, Moshe Grossbard, Whitehead Estates LLC, and principals of the GreyHill group. Arulampalam has referred four principals of the GreyHill group to the State’s Attorney’s office for prosecution after they failed to make repairs on Concord Hills apartments following a fire. The mayor is committed to holding landlords accountable and ensuring that residents have safe and healthy living conditions.
The city has identified numerous code enforcement violations for the problem landlords, leading to buildings being foreclosed or transferred to better landlords. The mayor has warned landlords that if they don’t shape up, they will be driven out of the city and face fines and violations. The press reached out to the companies for a response but has not received a reply. Arulampalam’s initiative aims to make Hartford an inhospitable place for landlords who prioritize profits over people.
