A Waterbury man was arrested for allegedly trying to steal his mother’s car and assaulting a police officer in the process. The incident occurred on Wood Street last Tuesday morning when officers responded to a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, police found the 19-year-old trying to steal his mother’s car from the back of her home. When asked to get out of the vehicle, he instead drove off with an officer caught partially between the car and a police cruiser. The officer managed to stop the car and the teen was taken into custody after a struggle.
One officer sustained cuts during the incident and was treated at a hospital before being released. Body camera footage of the encounter was released by the police.
The teen is facing multiple charges including assault on an officer, interfering, criminal mischief, and drinking while driving. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
