The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture suggests setting SMART goals to achieve health goals in the new year. Brittney Schrick, an extension associate professor and family life specialist, advises making goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-sensitive. Schrick also emphasizes the importance of setting realistic and meaningful goals that can be achieved.
While physical health is often the focus of resolutions, it is essential to also consider mental and emotional health. Schrick recommends making changes that can benefit overall well-being, such as reading more, reaching out to friends, or spending time outdoors. Additionally, changing mindsets, speaking kindly to oneself, and tidying up living spaces regularly can have a positive impact on mental health.
Setting goals as a family and tracking progress visually can help hold each other accountable and make achieving goals more manageable. The Division of Agriculture offers resources for family well-being and encourages individuals to connect with their local Cooperative Extension Service agent for more information.
The Division of Agriculture’s mission is to strengthen agriculture, communities, and families by providing trusted research and best practices.
