Connecticut State Police, along with various agencies, are investigating reports of large drones being flown across the state. The Connecticut Division of Emergency Management, Homeland Security, and the Connecticut Intelligence Center are analyzing data while portable and fixed drone sensing devices are being used. Most sightings are of manned aircraft or drones operating legally. Reports from Fairfield County are causing public safety concerns, with lawmakers demanding a briefing on the issue. While the White House and Pentagon have stated most of the drones are lawful, concerns remain about the potential risks they pose to aviation and national security. Senator Blumenthal has raised worries about the drones near military installations like Groton. It is illegal to fly drones over military installations, and there are restrictions near airports. Despite investigations, Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz believes there is no malicious intent behind the drone activity. Security concerns persist, especially around the potential for disruption to air traffic and national security.
