Red Sox make deal with White Sox to bring LHP Garrett Crochet to Boston – NBC Connecticut

The Boston Red Sox have made a significant move in the 2024-25 MLB offseason with the acquisition of left-hander Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. In exchange for Crochet, the Red Sox have traded four of their top prospects: catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and right-hander Wikelman Gonzalez. The deal was first reported by Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe.

Crochet, a 25-year-old ace, has the potential to lead the Red Sox rotation with his impressive performance during the 2024 season, where he earned his first career All-Star nod. Despite missing the entire 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery, Crochet showcased his abilities with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 209 strikeouts, and only 33 walks in 32 starts for the White Sox.

While the Red Sox are giving up four talented prospects in the trade, including recent first-round draft picks Teel and Montgomery, they still maintain a strong farm system with top prospects like Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell. Crochet’s addition to the rotation, which also includes Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Brayan Bello, and Lucas Giolito, adds depth and talent to the pitching staff.

Overall, the acquisition of Crochet represents a significant move for the Red Sox as they look to bolster their roster for the upcoming season. Crochet’s upside as a young ace with dominant pitching abilities makes him a valuable addition to the team.
