President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has finally signed a memorandum of understanding with the White House after missing previous deadlines. This agreement allows for the coordination of resources and personnel between the incoming administration and federal agencies. The delay in signing the agreements had sparked criticism from former officials and lawmakers, with concerns raised about the impact on a smooth transition of power.
Despite missing the deadlines, Trump’s team stated that they preferred to operate as a “self-sufficient organization” rather than accepting additional resources from the federal government. However, the White House and the General Services Administration had urged them to sign the agreements to facilitate a smoother transition.
The agreement with the White House requires Trump to publicly post his ethics plan for the transition team, which was uploaded on the GSA website. Additionally, Trump’s team had not signed an agreement with the Justice Department, which would allow the FBI to conduct background checks on Cabinet nominees.
While the White House expressed disagreement with Trump’s decision not to sign the GSA memorandum, they emphasized the importance of a smooth transition for the safety and wellbeing of the American people. The Trump transition team and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
