Thiago Messi, the 12-year-old son of soccer star Lionel Messi, recently made his debut in the Newell’s Cup tournament in Rosario, Argentina. Representing an Inter Miami youth team, Thiago wore the iconic No. 10 jersey as his team faced off against Newell’s Old Boys, ultimately losing 1-0. Despite the defeat, Thiago’s family, including his mother Antonela Roccuzzo and grandparents, were in attendance to support him.
Taking after his father, who began his career in Rosario, Thiago showed promise on the field playing alongside his friend Benjamín Suárez, son of Luis Suárez. The pair watched a friendly game on Sunday after Inter Miami’s early elimination in the MLS playoffs. Following the match, Thiago participated in the under-13 competition, where eight teams from North and South America came together to compete.
While Lionel Messi was not present at his son’s debut, the family’s support was evident as Thiago took the field. With his connections to both Argentina and Barcelona, Thiago’s foray into competitive soccer has drawn attention from fans and media alike. The young Messi demonstrated his skills in Rosario, following in the footsteps of his father and possibly paving the way for a promising future in the sport.
