Several of President-elect Donald Trump’s planned Cabinet nominees and administration appointees were recently targeted with bomb threats and “swatting” attacks, according to a statement from the Trump transition team. The swatting incidents, which involved hoax calls claiming life-threatening situations, were not deemed credible by law enforcement officials. The FBI is now investigating the threats, which do not involve Secret Service protectees like Trump or Vice President-elect JD Vance. The Trump transition team expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s swift response to ensure the safety of the targeted individuals. Among those attacked were Rep. Elise Stefanik, who is nominated to be ambassador to the United Nations, and former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who recently withdrew his bid to be Trump’s attorney general. Despite the threats, the Trump team remains undeterred and committed to their work, with a spokesperson stating that they will not be intimidated by acts of violence. Similar tactics have been previously used against those seen as adversaries to Trump, including judges and prosecutors involved in legal cases against him. The FBI is urging the public to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
