The No. 14 ranked UConn women’s hockey team is gearing up to compete in the 2024 Nutmeg Classic, starting with a match against Yale on November 29. Following a weekend series split against Boston College, UConn boasts a strong defense that ranks eighth nationally in scoring defense. Goalkeepers Tia Chan and Megan Warrener have only allowed 26 goals this season, ranking them tenth nationally and second in Hockey East.
Yale, with a record of 5-5-1, will be looking to bounce back from two consecutive losses as they face off against UConn. Sacred Heart, on a seven-game winning streak with a record of 11-3, will take on Quinnipiac, ranked No. 9 with a record of 11-4-2. Quinnipiac leads all of Division I with eight shutouts this season and will be a tough competitor in the championship or consolation games on November 30.
Yale is led by junior forward Carina DiAntonio, while Sacred Heart is guided by sophomore forward Isabella Chaput. Quinnipiac, under the coaching of Cassandra Turner, is led by graduate defender Kendall Cooper with fifteen points this season.
All games of the Nutmeg Classic will be played at Martire Family Arena on Sacred Heart’s campus, promising an action-packed and competitive weekend of women’s collegiate hockey. Fans can expect high-level play from these talented teams as they battle it out for the championship title.
