Russell Vought, co-author of Project 2025, chosen by Trump to head budget office

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget, a position he previously held during Trump’s first term. Vought is known for being an aggressive cost cutter and deregulator, reflecting Trump’s America First Agenda. In a statement, Trump praised Vought’s ability to dismantle the Deep State and return self-governance to the people. Vought, in response, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He has previously advocated for setting fiscal goals in the budget development process to address the government’s fiscal irresponsibility.

Vought was a co-author of Project 2025, a conservative blueprint that emphasizes controlling the federal government’s spending. He believes that the president’s budget is a powerful tool for setting and enforcing policy at federal agencies. In recent interviews, Vought has emphasized the need for Trump to take greater control over government agencies to combat bureaucratic obstacles. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee the budget and execution of Trump’s policies across executive departments and agencies.

Trump also announced several other key Cabinet picks, including former NFL player Scott Turner as housing and urban development secretary and Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as labor secretary. He nominated surgeon Marty Makary as FDA commissioner and former Rep. Dave Weldon as CDC director. Sebastian Gorka, a former national security aide, was named deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism. The appointments reflect Trump’s push to implement his policy agenda and dismantle bureaucratic obstacles.
