President-elect Donald Trump has named Russell Vought as his pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Vought, a co-author of Project 2025, is praised by Trump as an aggressive cost-cutter and deregulator. In response to the nomination, Vought expressed his gratitude and commitment to the American people.
In his chapter for Project 2025, Vought emphasized the importance of setting fiscal goals and enforcing public policy through the President’s budget. He advocates for greater executive control over government agencies to combat the “woke and weaponized bureaucracy.”
Despite distancing themselves from Project 2025 during the campaign, many associated with the initiative have been tapped for positions in the incoming Trump administration. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee budget and policy execution across executive departments and agencies. Stephen Miller, Trump’s expected deputy chief of staff, lauded Vought as a “transformative pick” for the budget office.
In addition to Vought, Trump announced several key Cabinet picks, including Scott Turner for housing and urban development secretary, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as labor secretary, and surgeon Marty Makary as FDA commissioner. Sebastian Gorka, a former aide who previously faced criticism, will serve as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism.
Overall, Trump’s recent appointments reflect his commitment to implementing his America First Agenda and reshaping the government to align with his vision for the country.
