Redding Community Rallies to Rescue Missing Dog After 36-Hour Ordeal
Redding, CT — A heartwarming reunion unfolded Thursday morning as Sue McIntee was joyfully reunited with her four-year-old Brittany dog, Millie, who had been missing for 36 hours. The miraculous recovery was the result of a dedicated community effort, showcasing the power of collaboration in times of crisis.
Millie’s disappearance occurred during an off-leash walk at Topstone Park, where she unexpectedly veered off the trail. "I thought she was going to circle back, but she didn’t," McIntee recalled. Despite her exhaustive efforts to locate Millie with her son, the search yielded no results and left McIntee filled with worry over her dog’s safety amid potential dangers like coyotes.
In a desperate plea for help, McIntee took to social media, where the community responded enthusiastically. The volunteer organization Connecticut Dog Gone Recovery quickly joined the effort, distributing flyers and mobilizing residents to aid in the search. "It was posted on all kinds of town Facebook pages," McIntee noted, highlighting the community’s extensive outreach.
The search concluded when a vigilant school bus driver spotted Millie sitting on a porch and promptly called the number listed on the flyers. Following the tip, volunteers and McIntee hurried to Old Redding Road, where they successfully coaxed the weary dog back into their arms.
McIntee expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the bus driver, emphasizing their critical role in bringing Millie home. "You made such a big difference. You’ve made this a happy ending," she said.
Though Millie was found a substantial distance from home, she emerged in relatively good condition. Moving forward, McIntee plans to prioritize Millie’s safety by ensuri
