Man from Boston faces charges for assaulting a transgender woman on a train

A Boston man named Gregory Burnett was charged with assault after allegedly punching and kicking a transgender woman at a train station. The victim reported being attacked on Halloween at the Maverick train station, where Burnett shouted derogatory terms at her based on her gender identity. She tried to defend herself, but Burnett pulled her leg causing her to fall and fracture her wrist. The victim believed the attack was motivated by her gender identity. District Attorney Kevin Hayden condemned the attack, stating that everyone has the right to travel in peace and safety regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The assault occurred on a Blue Line train with the doors open, and other passengers had to intervene to help the victim fend off Burnett. Surveillance video and witness descriptions led to Burnett’s arrest on charges including assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and civil rights violation with injury. It is unclear if he has retained an attorney.
