Southern Connecticut State University football players had a strong showing on the 2024 Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference teams. E’Lijah Gray earned a spot on the NE10 First Team for the second consecutive season, leading the conference in rushing with 1,049 yards and 8 touchdowns. Michael Strachan and Joe DiGello were named to the NE10 Second Team for their impressive performances throughout the season. Strachan had career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, while DiGello, a senior linebacker, had 68 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. Daniel Benzi was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team for his standout performance as the team’s place kicker, ranking fourth among all NE10 kickers with 45 points. Benzi was 33-for-35 on point-after attempts and converted on 4-of-5 field goals.
Gray’s standout performances included a season-best 204 yards rushing against Post and a three-touchdown day against American International. DiGello’s top game was against New Haven with 13 tackles and a hurry, while Strachan had a notable game against AIC with two touchdown catches. Benzi was recognized as the NE10 Rookie of the Week after hitting 4-of-4 point-after attempts and converting a 34-yard field goal against Post.
The Owls’ football team has had a successful season with multiple players being recognized for their outstanding performances on the field. With Gray leading the conference in rushing, Strachan and DiGello’s strong showings, and Benzi’s notable rookie season, the team has shown their talent and skill in the competitive NE10 conference.
