A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured in a shooting incident at a high-rise building in Midtown Atlanta. The suspect, identified as 70-year-old Jay Stevens Berger, fired multiple shots from the 33rd floor balcony, using multiple guns. The police responded to a dispute between the suspect and a building worker, leading to a standoff and eventual breach of the suspect’s residence. The injured officer and suspect were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect will be investigated for aggravated assault and other violations. Despite the use of force, no other injuries were reported, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will investigate the police officers’ response. The shelter-in-place order for the area has been lifted, and the Four Seasons hotel in the building is now open, with no impact on its operations. The incident was contained to the residential condominium portion of the high-rise not managed by the hotel. The safety and security of guests and employees remain a top priority for the hotel.
