Renowned chef who was once homeless gives back to community | Lifestyle

Renowned chef Dwayne Rhodes, with a Master’s Degree in Culinary Arts, recently showcased his skills by preparing a three-course meal for Serving Hope at HomewardBound of the Grand Valley’s Homeless Shelter. This act of generosity was Rhodes’ way of expressing gratitude for the shelter’s support during a time of need for himself and his son.

Having garnered experience in restaurants across the globe, including Mexico, Italy, and Greece, Rhodes highlighted the importance of mentors and hands-on experience in honing culinary skills. His achievements include winning the International Restaurant Week in the Mexican Riviera twice and opening Burger-Ink Bistro in Puerto Vallarta, a unique venue where guests can enjoy U.S. cuisine, drink microbrews, and get tattoos.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced Rhodes to return to the U.S. with his son, facing financial difficulties along the way. Eventually settling in Grand Junction, Rhodes is focused on building a stable life for his family in the area. His son is enrolled in a local school, while Rhodes aims to find a job in the restaurant industry to continue supporting his family.

Despite his setbacks, Rhodes remains passionate about the culinary arts and looks forward to sharing his love for food with his son. Their reunion with Rhodes’ wife and Kai’s mother is anticipated by January, marking a new chapter for the family in Grand Junction. Through his resilience and generosity, Rhodes continues to inspire others with his culinary skills and dedication to family.
