Former Disney employee Michael Scheuer, who had been terminated from his role as a menu production manager at Walt Disney World, is being accused of hacking into the menu-creating software used by the company’s restaurants. The federal criminal complaint filed against Scheuer alleges that he made unauthorized changes to the menus, including falsely indicating that certain items did not contain peanuts, posing a potential threat to individuals with peanut allergies. Scheuer’s termination from Disney was reportedly contentious, and he continued to access the software from a personal device after his firing. The complaint also mentions that Scheuer added profanity and made other unauthorized changes to menu prices during a three-month period. Federal agents searched Scheuer’s home and seized four personal computers on Sept. 23. Scheuer denies any wrongdoing and accuses Disney of trying to frame him due to concerns about the conditions under which he was terminated. His attorney claims that Scheuer has a disability that may have impacted his termination and that Disney failed to respond to his inquiries about being fired, leading him to file an EEOC complaint. Disney has not yet commented on the situation, while Scheuer’s attorney looks forward to presenting his client’s side of the story.
