Kody Tyler Stewart, a fugitive wanted on multiple child rape charges, was apprehended in Old Lyme after a joint effort by law enforcement agencies. The 30-year-old from Mississippi was arrested on Tuesday following a tip about his whereabouts in Connecticut.
Stewart, wanted on charges including child rape, continuous sexual abuse of a child, aggravated sexual battery, attempted rape, solicitation of a minor, and more, had an active warrant from Tennessee. He is now being held on a $500,000 bond and is set to appear in court in New London on Wednesday. After that, he will be extradited to Tennessee to face the charges against him.
The arrest was a result of collaboration between Old Lyme police, Connecticut State Police, U.S. Marshals, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry/Criminal Warrants Division. Officials worked together after receiving information that Stewart may be in Connecticut, leading to his capture and arrest.
This development is a significant victory in the fight against child predators, as Stewart’s apprehension will prevent further harm to potential victims. Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the case and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The successful collaboration serves as a reminder of the importance of cross-agency cooperation in maintaining public safety.
