Kody Tyler Stewart, a fugitive wanted in Tennessee for multiple counts of raping a child, was arrested in Connecticut on Tuesday. Connecticut State Police found Stewart at a home in Old Lyme, where they also discovered a child and an unsecured firearm that the child could access. After being alerted by police in Chattanooga, Tenn., officers in Connecticut went to the suspected residence and arrested Stewart without incident the next day. Stewart faced numerous charges in Tennessee, including rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery. In Connecticut, he was charged as a fugitive from justice and for reckless endangerment related to the unsecured gun. Stewart did not post his $510,000 bond and was scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday. The 30-year-old was a resident of Lamar County, Miss., near the Tennessee border. The arrest marks a success in catching a dangerous fugitive responsible for serious crimes, and Connecticut authorities have taken steps to protect the child found at the scene. It is a reminder of the collaboration between law enforcement agencies in different states to bring fugitives to justice and ensure the safety of communities.
