Vance emphasizes the importance of not being easily offended, NBC Connecticut reports.

Sen. JD Vance responded to racist jokes made by a comedian at a recent Trump rally, stating that Americans should not get easily offended. The comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, sparked outrage with jokes about Puerto Ricans and other groups. Vance criticized the focus on the jokes, calling it a distraction from real issues. He emphasized the importance of candidates addressing people’s problems instead. However, he also mentioned a joke by comedian George Lopez at a Harris rally, suggesting that people should not take jokes too seriously. Top Trump ally Sen. Marco Rubio also defended Puerto Ricans in response to the jokes. The jokes came shortly after Trump himself made disparaging remarks about the U.S. being like a “garbage can” in relation to immigration. Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony criticized Trump’s treatment of the island, recalling his response to Hurricane Maria and the lack of relief for Puerto Ricans. Overall, Vance and others urged for a sense of humor and a focus on important issues rather than getting offended by jokes.
