The University of New Haven has taken a proactive step in enhancing security on its campus by implementing a new technology system called ZeroEyes. This system uses artificial intelligence to detect exposed weapons through existing security cameras, allowing for early identification of a firearm in the event of a gun-related emergency. If a weapon is detected, an alert is sent to the customer to respond quickly.
J.T. Wilkins, the senior vice president of sales for ZeroEyes, emphasized the importance of early detection in mitigating the effects of mass shootings. Police Deputy Chief Brett Mahoney at the University of New Haven also expressed the need to be prepared for the unfortunate reality of gun incidents on campuses.
Mahoney explained that the system is designed to detect visible weapons, but will not trigger false alarms for concealed weapons carried by law enforcement officers. He added that there have been no recent gun-related incidents at UNH and that ZeroEyes will serve as a proactive measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
