Man convicted of defrauding UConn with fake applications and tuition refund requests

A Greenwich man, 25-year-old Dickson Alorwornu, was found guilty of using stolen credit cards to pay for tuition at the University of Connecticut, fraudulently obtaining $62,000. Alorwornu, a citizen of Ghana, used fake names, Social Security Numbers, and email addresses to submit non-degree student applications to UConn in December 2017, funded by stolen credit cards. He later withdrew and requested refunds. He was also found to have committed similar fraud at other universities. Alorwornu faces up to 20 years in prison for each count of wire fraud and is set for sentencing on Feb. 19. He has been released on a $50,000 bond.
