Joe Flacco takes over as Colts starting quarterback, Anthony Richardson benched

The Indianapolis Colts have decided to bench quarterback Anthony Richardson in favor of veteran Joe Flacco. Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has struggled this season, completing only 44.4% of his passes with four touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has also dealt with a hip injury that caused him to miss two games. In contrast, Flacco has started two games for the Colts, winning one and losing one. In four appearances this season, Flacco has completed 65.7% of his passes for 716 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception. Richardson has struggled with accuracy in both his professional seasons. He missed the latter part of his rookie season due to a shoulder injury and was pulled out of a recent game due to fatigue. Head coach Shane Steichen had a conversation with Richardson about the incident, emphasizing the importance of not taking oneself out of the game. Flacco, a seasoned veteran in his 17th season, previously won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. Despite the quarterback issues, the Colts are still in contention for a playoff spot in the AFC, only a half-game behind the seventh seed in the conference. They currently sit in second place in the AFC South behind Houston.
