Can a Team Make a Historic 3-0 Comeback in the World Series? – NBC Connecticut

A historic World Series sweep is on the line as the New York Yankees find themselves down 3-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers after a loss on Monday. The Yankees are looking to make a comeback, but history shows that coming back from a 3-0 deficit is nearly impossible. No team has ever overcome such a deficit in the World Series, with the only instance being the 2004 Yankees blowing a 3-0 lead to the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS.

There have been 21 World Series sweeps in history, most recently in 2012 when the San Francisco Giants beat the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees have been swept three times in the World Series.

Climbing out of a 3-0 hole is rare in all sports, with the feat never accomplished in the NBA. In the NHL, only four teams have managed to do so, with the most recent being the 2014 Los Angeles Kings.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone remains hopeful, focusing on taking one game at a time, starting with Game 4 on Tuesday. The team is looking to avoid the sweep and recapture the magic that could lead to a historic comeback. However, the odds are stacked against them as the Dodgers continue to dominate on the field.
