A 24-year-old hiker was found dead on the Marufo Vega Trail in Big Bend National Park in Texas after rangers noticed a vehicle that had been parked for several days and launched a search. The rugged 14-mile trail, known for its lack of shade and water, can be dangerous during warm weather. The body was removed by helicopter and the park staff expressed their condolences to the hiker’s family and friends. Despite being late October, temperatures in the desert areas of the park were still reaching almost 100 degrees each afternoon. The park service warned of the dangerous conditions in the park, especially during warmer times of year, and stressed the importance of being prepared for extreme heat. The exact cause of the hiker’s death has not been disclosed.
