Stephanie White, former head coach of the Connecticut Sun, has parted ways with the team after leading them to the WNBA semifinals in both of her seasons. The team finished third in the regular season and had a successful playoff run, ultimately losing in a five-game semifinal series to Minnesota. White was praised for her commitment to the Sun organization and was named the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year.
White, who previously coached the Indiana Fever and had a successful playing career in the WNBA, attributed her departure to a family emergency. The Sun are now seeking a new head coach as they join six other WNBA teams in making coaching changes this offseason.
Throughout her career, White has had success both on and off the court, leading the Fever to the finals in 2015 and earning accolades as a college basketball analyst for ESPN and the Big Ten Network. She played five seasons in the WNBA after a standout college career at Purdue.
The announcement of White’s departure comes shortly after the Indiana Fever fired their head coach, Christie Sides, marking a period of transition for several teams in the league. The Sun expressed their gratitude for White’s contributions and wished her the best in her future endeavors.
